All for one and one for Ford: Ford’s global small SUV model to arrive in UK 2014

Ford has revealed plans to introduce its new all-new EcoSport to the European market.  Originally developed by Ford Brazil, the budget small SUV is already on sale in South America and India. Now under the ‘One Ford’ program the compact SUV will be styled and engineered for European tastes. The new model promises to combine the agility, affordability and fuel efficiency of a small family car with the flexibility, style and spaciousness of a SUV. EcoSport is the first Ford global model and shares its platform with the Fiesta and recently revealed B-MAX. All feature the new corporate front end featuring large trapezoidal lower grille, capped by a narrow single-bar opening that contains the Ford badge. Expected to be available only in two-wheel-drive form for the UK, the EcoSport shares much of its mechanicals with the recently facelifted Fiesta. The engine line-up is expected to mirror that of the B-MAX, including a 1.6 TDCi diesel with 94bhp and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder Ecoboost with either 99bhp or 118bhp. EcoSport will offer a comprehensive package of driver assistance technologies including anti-lock brake system, Electronic Stability Program, and Hill Launch Assist. It will also be equipped with Ford SYNC in-car connectivity system. This enables drivers’ to voice-activate phone calls and select music from devices connected via Bluetooth or USB. Ford SYNC includes Emergency Assistance, which directly connects the vehicle occupants to local emergency services operators after an accident, in the correct language for the region. The new EcoSport is expected to go on sale within 18 months and will meet the increasing demand for small SUVs in Europe, which Ford expects to double over the next five years.
